Installation & Setup

Get AsPeach up and running on your Mac or PC.

System Requirements

  • macOS 12 (Monterey) or later — Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) or Intel processor.
  • Windows 10 or later — 64-bit.
  • 4 GB RAM minimum — 8 GB recommended if you plan to use larger Whisper models for better accuracy.
  • 500 MB free disk space — for the app itself plus the default Whisper model file.

Installing on macOS

  1. Go to the download section on the AsPeach homepage and click Download for Mac.
  2. A file ending in .dmg will download to your Downloads folder. Find it and double-click it to open.
  3. A window appears with the AsPeach icon and an Applications folder. Drag the AsPeach icon onto the Applications folder. This copies the app to your computer.
  4. Open your Applications folder. You can do this by opening Finder, then clicking Go → Applications in the menu bar at the top of the screen. Find AsPeach and double-click it.
  5. macOS may show a warning saying the app is from an unidentified developer. Click Open to proceed. This warning only appears the first time you launch the app.

Installing on Windows

  1. Go to the download section on the AsPeach homepage and click Download for Windows.
  2. Run the downloaded .exe installer file.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts. AsPeach will install and open automatically when done.

Permissions (Important!)

When AsPeach launches for the first time, your operating system will ask you to grant some permissions. AsPeach cannot work properly without these. Here is what each one does and how to grant it:

Microphone Permission

AsPeach needs access to your microphone to record your voice. Without this, the app has nothing to transcribe.

  • macOS: A popup appears saying "AsPeach would like to access the microphone." Click Allow. If you accidentally clicked "Don't Allow," go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and toggle AsPeach ON.
  • Windows: A popup appears asking for microphone access. Click Yes. If you need to fix this later, go to Settings → Privacy → Microphone and make sure AsPeach is allowed.

Accessibility Permission (macOS Only)

This permission lets AsPeach type text directly into whatever app you're using. Without it, AsPeach can still transcribe your voice, but it cannot automatically paste the text into your active application. You'd have to copy and paste manually each time.

  1. AsPeach will prompt you to grant this. Click the button to open System Settings.
  2. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
  3. Find AsPeach in the list and toggle it ON.
  4. You may need to click the lock icon at the bottom and enter your password first.

Windows note: Windows does not require a separate accessibility permission. AsPeach uses the clipboard to paste text, which works automatically.

First Launch — What Happens

  1. Model download: AsPeach automatically downloads the "Base" Whisper model (the speech recognition engine). You'll see a progress bar. This only happens once — after this, the model is saved on your computer.
  2. Ready to use: Once the model finishes downloading, you'll see "Ready" in the status area. You can now start recording.

Your First Transcription

  1. Click inside any text field — an email, a document, a chat message, a search bar, anything where you can type.
  2. Press the keyboard shortcut to start recording:
    • Mac: Option + Shift + Space (⌥⇧Space)
    • Windows: Alt + Shift + Space
  3. The AsPeach button turns pink and pulses. A timer starts counting. This means it's recording.
  4. Speak naturally. Talk as you normally would. Don't rush or whisper — just talk at a normal volume.
  5. Press the same shortcut again to stop recording.
  6. Wait a moment while AsPeach processes your audio. The status shows "Transcribing..."
  7. Your text appears in the text field where your cursor was. Done!

Updating AsPeach

AsPeach checks for updates automatically. When a new version is available, you'll be notified and can install the update with one click. You can also check manually from the system tray menu → Check for Updates.

If automatic update doesn't work, you can always download the latest version from our website and install it over the existing version. Your settings and data are preserved.
